Residential construction employment has declined for 15 consecutive years, losing 48,800 jobs over the past year, the longest decline since the Great Recession. Despite this, the sector remains a key employer in many local markets, especially in rural and smaller counties where home building represents a larger share of total employment. Employment concentration is highest in non-metro/micro counties and lowest in large metro core counties.
