Most Homeowners Maintain Equity Despite Market Challenges

Homeowner equity gains in the U.S. have slowed, with average equity at $307,000 but slipping 0.8% year over year. Negative equity rose from 1.7% to 2%, adding 175,000 underwater households. Northeastern states see gains, while Florida and the Mountain West face losses. A 3% home price rise is forecasted by mid-2026. Negative equity limits refinancing and selling options, but remains low historically.
