Sacramento is among seven California cities that could permit taller residential buildings if the governor signs a downtown density bill passed by lawmakers.
The measure would require Sacramento to create regional transit hub districts, with residential height caps set at a maximum of at least 150 feet.
In Sacramento, at least 25% of those transit hub districts would also need to allow residential buildings reaching maximum heights of at least 450 feet.
Sacramento qualified because the bill targeted major cities with transit, at least two transit stops, and populations of at least 400K residents.
If approved, the measure would trigger a housing construction loan and financing study, adding a next step as Sacramento considers higher downtown density.
